A young team takes over!

Musical discoveries and Inspiration Islands are bringing Střelecký Island, Kampa Island, Children's Island and Janáčkovo nábřeží (waterfront) back to life as early as in mid-June. Save the date, the United Islands of Prague 2022 will take place right in the heart of historical Prague on 10th - 11th June 2022. This year's festival will once again breathe through the topics of sustainability, interconnectedness and diversity - the values brought in by the new, young team in 2021.

The 19th edition of the United Islands of Prague Festival will take place in Prague on the second weekend of June – on Friday 10th and Saturday 11th June 2022. Fans can look forward to a diverse range of new musicians from both the domestic and foreign scene and a number of novelties.

The new team led by Kamila Buráňová is now in charge of the management of the event

Last year the festival successfully moved back from Karlín to the center of Prague.“We believe that we managed to restart the festival both dramatically and also through the Inspiration Islands,” says Kamila Buráňová, the new manager in charge of the festival. “In the upcoming year, media partners and other experts will be directly involved in the preparations of the dramaturgy. We have big plans together and on the top of that we have already been promised a number of interesting collaborations. So there is definitely something to look forward to," she adds.

The second year running, the United Islands team is made up of young enthusiastic professionals. And the enthusiasm is shared by the producers of the festival as well: “There is currently an inter-generation “fight” going on in our office and it's a joy to see that the young generation is winning,” explains David Gaydečka, the festival's producer. “The new team has already successfully organised last year´s edition, which (despite the pandemics and in compliance with all the government measures) was visited by more than 18 000 visiters. Not only for that reason we are pleased with the handover of the festival into the hands of our younger colleagues and we believe they will be able to push the festival even further,” says, adding to his colleague, producer Martin Voňka.

Connecting genres while focusing on their diversity

This year´s main focus will be, similarly to the last edition, on sustainability, interconnectedness and diversity. These topics will also create a base for the Inspiration Islands program which aims to be as interactive and inspirational for its visitors as possible. Visitors may choose from a variety of workshops, lectures, panel discussions and more. And traditionally, for the little ones, a rich program will be prepared in cooperation with the Sokol Unit and other organizations.

The locations of the events will be thematically divided between the Islands in 2022. Each of the islands will have its own “specialization” based on both musical and non-musical aspects of the program. “We cooperate closely with NGOs, theatres, museums and other institutions. To mention addressely at least a few of them, we are pleased to be once again in touch with Czech ScoutInstitute, Konsent and Amnesty International,” the United Islands manager Buráňová concludes the announcement of the upcoming 19th edition of the festival.
